Description |
The short inscription simply reads that ‘This amulet, a Buddhist preceptor named Piṇña whose meritorious deeds are well-known far and away.’ This could mean that the Buddhist preceptor Piṇña, a famous and highly revered monk, made this kind of amulet to give away to people to worship. The tradition of inscribing the names of sponsors for amulet production on amulets is also reflected on Inscription on Buddha Amulet (Mueang Si Thep) on which the word ‘Woen Siang’, the name of a Chinese monk, is found. |
