The inscription mentions the name of Puṇṇasunāparanta, one of the greatest disciples of the Lord Buddha. He was born in the port city of Suppāraka in Sunāparanta and was given the name of Puṇṇa. When grew up, he ran a business selling things with his younger brother by taking turns in leading 500 carts loaded with goods to sell in outlying cities. After meeting the Lord Buddha, he was filled with faith and entered the monkhood, leaving all his fortune to his younger brother. He worked for the benefit of the people until he passed away into nirvana in Sunāparanta. |
