Description |
The inscription mentions the name of Kaṅkhārevatta who was etadagga (foremost expert) in insight. His old name was Revatta. He was a son of a very rich man in Sāvatthī. One day, he listened to the Lord Buddha’s sermon which won his faith, and he decided to be ordained as a monk. He practiced insight meditation so much that he attained secular insight, and not long after that he successfully attained arahantship. The reason why he was named Kaṅkhārevatta (Revattathera who always has doubts) was that he always questioned in advance whether what he was about to use or do went against Buddhist rules or whether it was suitable for a monk to use or not. |
