Observations in khwen court office.

| March 26 -28, 1969. Aroonrat (assistant researcher of Moerman?) collected data on various court cases. There were issues of interest including 1) the one who was drunk and caused a quarrel and fight in a bar; 2) a group accused of breking and entering the houses of others to steal property. The court pronounced imprisonment for a year; 3) regarding a case on prostitution, the court sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of 50 baht each, 4) the case on a man who was a heroin user and broke and entered the homes of others for the purpose of theft; 5) The case of a brick craftsman who was drunk and assaulted a tricyclist. Because the defendant's boss vouched for the defendant's conduct, the court penalty was lightened by order of suspension; 6) the case of illegal pig butchery. | Punch card

A case of larceny.

| April 3, 1969. Moerman attended a hearing for a case of the misappropriation of company assets amounting to 100,000 U.S.D. Usually, a case such as this one would be conducted as a civil lawsuit. But because of large value of the misappropriated funds, it was filed as a criminal prosecution. | Punch card

A sink falls on David.

| June 17, 1969. The Chiang Rai Airport staff called Moerman, asserting that his child had broken a sink in the restroom of the airport. However, Moerman disagreed and countered, saying that the sink was broken and fell on his son. The staff wanted to file a criminal prosecution because it was the director's restroom, which was open to the general public. Moerman decide to call the sheriff and Arkom. Both of them helped resolve the situation, defending Moerman by emphasizing that the airport was a public place. If there was to be a lawsuit for damages, it might be filed with the civil court, not as a criminal prosecution. | Punch card

Bottle bomb case at Sarapi.

| June 19, 1969. Because In Pan's son admitted to provoking the incident, the court reduced the penalty to imprisonment for only three months. However, In Pan was still not satisfied with the decision. In fact there were another two defendants, but they were released without any liability. Uthai, the police who was responsible for the case, refused to submit the complaint to the court. In Pan filed letters of complaint to the Central Investigation Committee. | Punch card

Bottle-bomb case.

| July 2, 1969. In Pan claimed justice for his son, who was punished solely because he caused trouble with Uthai, the police who had influence in the village. He often exploited his authority to threaten the others. In Pan's son and his friends were all captured, but his friends had been bailed out because they agreed to pay a bribe to police of 3000 baht each. But In Pan's son had not been bailed out because Uthai wanted to ‘haze’ him. This case became a fight to ‘save face’ because if two youngsters who were friends of the In Pan's son were arrested, Uthai would lose face. In addition, the penalty of In Pan's son may be reduced. | Punch card
