1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

Athu arrested for robbery under the accusation of a red Lahu.

| January 20, 1969. Bob told Moerman that Athu, the son of an Akha shaman, was arrested because the Red Lahu accused him of stealing (?). However, when the alleged incident took place, Athu was celebrating a festival in the village. But the lawyer refused to act as his attorney if Athu was bailed out, because Athu had a past record, and highlanders did not always come down to attend trial court. Athu was imprisoned for a year before the trial. | Punch card

Murder committed in the course of a robbery.

| February 13, 1969. Penthip sat out the bench for a case on burglary and murder. Two suspects robbed a grocery store and killed one person. The accused confessed and was jailed during the trial. The plaintiff testified that he did not clearly see the accused, because he saw it from a side view and saw it for only a moment. In the afternoon Penthip asked Moerman to not tape the trial because the case was serious and the accused could receive the death penalty. | Punch card

| January 10, 1969. The court believed the defendant was guilty in half and there was no evidence to clear the confession of guilt that the defendant had signed earlier. In addition, abnormalities in the way in which the bullet was shot and the errors in the process of the police investigation meant the evidence could not be used. But the judge was firmly convinced that the defendant was guilty. | Punch card

| December 13. In addition to the gaunt appearance of his body, the result from the laboratory confirmed that Mr. Lee addicted to heroin. The clerk then took him to take his fingerprints. | Punch card

| June 4, 1969. The police arrested a Chinese man because he possessed heroin. During the trial, an interpreter was required because the accused did not understand Thai. The police examined the Chinese man’s shop, where they had found the heroin. The police informed him that to cease the case he needed to pay 5,000 baht. However, he did not have much money and thought that he had done no wrong. In the Chinese man's opinion the bribery was a crucial issue. | Punch card

| May 29, 1969.The military paid the police to pay one another and the prosecutor. The lawsuit ended as well, as a receipt that was the proof was lost (?). | Punch card

Seduction as a counter charge to theft.

| March 28, 1969. At District Court a 16-year-old girl was accused of stealing cigarettes from her employer to the amount of 500 baht. However, she claimed that she refused to sleep with her employer, and he slandered her. Because there was no money, the girl was inprisoned for 2 months. Suthon intended to counterclaim the employer, and finally the girl was released. | Punch card

Murder at Huey Kaew.

| December 23. Moerman attended a trial for a murder that took place at Huay Kaew waterfall. During the trial, he recorded testimony and observed the manners of the people in the courtroom in detail, especially the prosecutor who often turned to face the judge and each time asked the question to him. | Punch card

Arraignments.

| April 3, 1969. At court there were various trials in which the defendants accepted the guilty charge. For example, a youth who assaulted another with intent. The court reduced the sentence to one-half the penalty, for only one-month imprisonment. In another case where a boy injured a woman, he accepted the guilty charge as well. | Punch card

| December 24. Prosecutors (?) find fault in a case of election fraud (?), is guilty of an offense. However, due to lack of evidence it could not be processed. | Punch card
