1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

| June 21, 1965. N. Lut was shot by Ly. The bullet hit his eye, turning him blind in that eye, and the ammunition remained in his head. Later, the incident was reported to the district administration, the case could not easily be concluded. The headman liked drinking and gambling. He was out of money and therefore he had no money to buy food, so he asked the others for food. | Punch card

The party could reflect on the differences between the government agents and ordinary people. June 21, 1965. NA was “very poor” man. | July 7, 1965. A Yao woman was negligent, and a fire burnt her house. It caused the death of a 3-month-old child. Villagers insisted that she should pay a fine of 200 Baht and if she could not pay the fine she should be imprisoned. The laws are written to apply to all Thai people, even hill tribesmen. Therefore, they should be educated about the law. | Punch card

| July 7, 1965. Nai Roi met people who were selling buffalo, but the registration of the animals was invalid. He asked the villagers to come to meet him tomorrow to recieve a new document. On the following day, the villagers came to meet him. But they met a police officer, the police considered the business illegitimate. The villagers did not meet Nao Roi, but he appeared angry with the villagers, who did not come by appointment. So he ordered the police to arrest the people by accusing them to be a murderer or thief. The family of the residents or Seng went to see headman to ask for help, and finally Seng was also released. | Punch card
