1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

Somboon, candidate for representative from Nan.

| December 11, 1968. Somboon was the brother of Thawee's wife. He was lawyer. Thawee was a candidate for the Democrat Party in local politics, and was trying to encourage his Somboon’s support for the government party. It would be useful for the development of Nan. Thawee also introduced Somboon to Sa-nga who was the younger brother of the Prime Minister. Thawee had tried to convince Sa-nga that Somboon was an honest man and shy, and that Somboon's wife had assisted him in meeting others. At the present time, he had lost his wife. | Punch card

Politics in Chiang Mai

| Moerman made notes on a variety of issues. First, there was talk about the politics of the election in Chiang Mai. Mayor Chinda and his groups may be defeated because they gained only 13 seats out of 24. Second, the central government program for the power plantation in Chiang Mai. The budget was derived from municipal taxes that were an important source of income. Third, the names of people who were easy to remind and the names of famous people would be listed at the beginning of the party list. | Punch card

| December 10, 1968. The hall was well appointed, and many officials came to dance. The photographers took pictures, and most of them sat quietly and ate slowly. There were about 300 attendees, including 82 former graduates from Thammasat University. | Punch card

Temple visit

| November 4, 1968. The day after tomorrow would be Loy Krathong. [i.e. a Thai traditional festival in which people would pay respect to the deity of water.] Som had invited Moerman to make a merit at the temple. She believed that she would gain more merit because the day before the festival, there would be few villagers coming to the temple to offer food to the monks. So when the monks ate more of the food she donated, she would gain more merit. After the meal, they went to Viahara to offer incense sticks, flowers, and candles. There were many people in meditation and all were dressed with the best available clothing. | Punch card

| Moerman made notes about a dinner at Khan tok, in the northern-style. The conversation was tape-recorded. The person who sat at the head table was the Police Commissioner; then Preda, the District Officer; Nibond, Assistant District Officer of Bunchai. Preda began to speak in the northern-dialect. The Chief District Officer asked to cut some part of the show off. And the recorder restarted aftewards. | Punch card

District officials discuss festivities

| The meeting was tape-recorded. Dr. Nibond talked to a Chief District Officer about school children. Firstly, Preda paid for the fete, he did not intend to persuade people to choose him to be a representative. Secondly, Nibond asked the district officers to not add the names of the members of the National Committee. Thirdly, the discussion also concerned the number of shows and the performers, for which there would be donations. They also mentioned the number of police officers, forestry officers and district officers. Fourthly, the assistant district officer introduced Nibond with some words in simple Thai. | Punch card

The old school of medicine

| November 24, 1968. Moerman visited an old school of medicine. He took notes about the two school buildings, the number of students, the number of school hours per week, the number of terms, and the final test to certify graduation. If you passed, the association would issue certification. Regarding the learning and teaching style, the teacher would read the book slowly, so that the students could take notes. There was also a teaching about the smell of drugs. | Punch card

Provincial Council

| October 23-24, 1968. Sitting at the front of the room were a number of representatives: a Provincial Permanent Secretary, two assistant provincial officers, a Chairman and a budgetary officer. The audience and the press sat beside. First, they talked about the distribution of the budget to the district or provincial level. The districts gained 80% of the total taxation that was collected for the provinces. Second, there were many questions related to the budget, such as why the Teachers' Association had paid the cost of land, which was very expensive. So far, after the meeting, they had talked about the election of which the court had not accepted the result. People who had moved away from Chiang Mai moved back during the election campaign. | Punch card
