1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

Folk physiology and psychology

| October 14 and 18, 1959. Moerman collected data on the folklore of the villagers. For example, bathing too soon after working could turn a person’s stomach. A child with leprosy would not show any symptoms until the age of 10 years old, then they would begin to show symptoms on the hands and feet, etc. | Punch card

| September 23, 1959. Wi had attended university, but not to completion because his professor was accused of being a communist. The followers of this professor had no opportunity to work in government services. | Punch card

Hospital

| Moerman went to the hospital, and discovered that the number of doctors was insufficient and that the doctors who worked at the hospital were not highly capable. Moerman assisted with an explaination of modern medicine for the Yao parents of a sick child, helping them gain an understanding. In a welfare state this was free of charge. Many people asked Moerman to help explain the medicine that was prescribed by the doctors. | Punch card

Attitude to animals

| September 26, 1959. The youngest son of Caru:n hit a snake and it died. He used the dead snake in play with other children. Other insects were also used. September-October 1959 (?). Dogs in the village were often beaten, hit with stones or regularly shot by a catapult. They were attacked just because they walked roughly across the pavement, or hung around while people were eating. | Punch card

Children’s games

| November 23, 1959. Children played with kites designed in the shape of a plane. The kites would have a parachute when floating in the sky. Another child played riding on a wooden horse with a rope tied as a harness. January 14, 1961.
