1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

| October 25, 1960. The officials often misappropriated budget from the central government to use towards infrastructure for the villages. They would help each other cover up the offense. | Punch card

Social status

| November 12, 1960. Caru:n and the assistant district officer told Moerman about beliefs affecting the social status of the Tai Lue. For example, seating placement. Elders would sit at the front of the line, while the youngsters sat at the last place in the row. Regarding the direction faced while sleeping, the elders had to sleep facing north, while the youngsters must lay down towards the south. Concerning placement based on gender, men slept on the right side and woman slept on the left side. | Punch card

Yao wedding

| November 10, 11, and 17, 1960. The youngest brother of KhamsEn was going to marry a Yao girl from the mountainous area. 6,000 baht was spent for the organization of the wedding. Traditionally the Yao people, as hosts, would reward their guests for attending the event, and every guest was offered a pork leg, costing 10 baht. | Punch card

| November 16, 1960. Most parents wanted their children to attend school ahead of the proper age. But the school did not have the capacity to receive a large number of students. Because the parents were willing to donate benches, the school also agreed to accept children who had not yet reached the minimum age to attend. | Punch card
