1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

| March 26, 29 and 31, 1960. Moerman collected data from various households. He was using photography as tool to gain familiarity with the villagers. The people questioned him about the role of the priest in Christianity, and about his own family life. | Punch card

| March 30 and June 7, 1960. The villagers used to trade with the Yao and Khmu people. They told Moerman stories which were associated with these groups. | Punch card

Leaving the monkhood

| 1960. The abbot called the villagers for a meeting in the middle of the night. Tu Chao (abbot - translator) told the villagers he was to leave the monkhood. However the villagers asked him to delay the decision until the building of the sanctuary would be complete. | Punch card

ฺBrawl

| March 31, 1961. There was a brawl between the villagers of Ban Phaed and those of Ban Nong and Ban Van. The victims asked for a feast for forgiveness, but Suk (one of the causes?) refused. Many villagers helped settle the conflict, because they did not want get into trouble with the police. If so, the two parties would pay a fine and could have a record. (some cards were missing. | March 6, 1961. There was a meeting to settle a conflict between the village headman and khamcEn. The headman was dissatisfied because when khamcEn was drunk, he disparaged the headman and spoke disparagingly about him to the others. | Punch card

Repair of the temple (wihan)

| March 8, 1961. Buhsi, No, and Myang went into the city in order to negotiate the wages of technicians who would repair the wihan. March 25, 1961. In a meeting, there was an announcement that another 1500 baht was required for the tiles. After the meeting some villagers began to lay the walls. | Punch card

| March 10, 1961. Khammi called the villagers to witness the making of his will. Cen told Moerman that in the old days the promise of people was reliable, unlike the present, and a contract was now definitely required. | Punch card

Housewarming

| April 9, 1960. An expression like the “money went to ghost town" described lost money. It was referred to when explaining the behavior of the village headman. He often borrowed money and then refused to repay. April 10, 1960. In the morning the monks were invited to chant. Upon completion of the ceremony, the guests were sitting in circle to have lunch together. | Punch card
