1958-1961. The first field work trip of Moerman in Thailand. He spent almost 3 years to collected field data about the Lue society, tradition, culture, and daily life of Tai Lue community at Ban Phaed, Payao province. 3295 records of slide, photograph, punch card, letter, notebook, typescript, and map.

But he chose to stay in his hometown and worked in a low-wage job. Thawee, on the other hand, was the new governor of Nan province. He was good with people and traditions of the community, he attended various activities of villagers. He also invited them to visit his house. | (?) People used the Northern dialect; the vocals were high and low or slightly lower. Moerman tried to speak the dialect. The rustic monks inscribed using the north alphabet, while the monks in urban areas inscribed using the Central Thai alphabet, but the pronunciation resembled the northern dialect. | Punch card
