Scope and content : Following surveys in 1964 and 1969 of villages with diverse ethnic populations in the Mae Kok uplands of northern Thailand, Lucien Hanks proposed to return for a third survey, occasioned by changes made evident by comparing the 1964 findings with those of 1969, including increased population, the number of villages, the movement of villages, loss of forest cover, and contacts with both the Thai population and government.
