The superintendent and school principal of Ban Yuan School told Moerman that generally people believed that the smallpox fever epidemic during World War II was inflicted by the Americans. February 11, 1960. Moerman noted that most people talked about specifically bad things about the communists. Especially on the issue of property, which would be seized and shared with the poor. But poor people generally did not support the communists.
