Tumpalai Phu Pha Yon
The various engraved drawings can be classified as follows:1. Human figures. There are 21 engraved drawings of people, including both realistic and semi-realistic portraits. There are 9 realistic drawings, 2 of children and 7 of adults, that show the similarity between the real person and the drawing, for instance, the drawing of a person with an emphasis on only the outlines; the description of organs such as ears, eyes, mouth, nose, fingers, toes are not shown. The semi-realistic drawing is the drawing that characterizes the person in proportion but will be inaccurate from reality, for instance, the human head is in a square shape or the muscles of the limbs are not focused. However, other important parts such as ears, eyes, mouth, nose, fingers and toes aren’t completely shown. There are 12 drawings of this type. 2. Human hands. There is only one drawing of a right hand with the palm open. There are six fingers on the hand.3.Animals figures There are 21 drawings, 8 of fish, 4 of birds, 2 of dogs, 1 of a squirrel or a chipmunk, 1 of a buffalo, 4 of buffaloes or cows, 1 of a frog or a small green frog. 4. Geometrical motifs There are a lot of drawings with straight lines, curve lines or lines with different patterns, square, triangle, cross, arrowhead, rhombic triangle, single line, arranged lines, and crossed lines and sometimes the shape cannot be identified. 5.Appliance For example, a picture that resembles a plow, farming tools that show only the head area called “Moldboard plow” or “Phal” at the rear. There are also drawings of a shovel with a handle and a fan for blowing away the withered grain. 6.Building There are 2 drawings that look like a house. It is a house with a gable roof. One drawing is of a house with a dog inside and another drawing is of a house with a crossed roof similar to the roof of Kalae house or the roof of a hut in a farm in northeast of Thailand and it looks like there is a person inside the house.

SculptureDoor at Wat Ong Tue
In the reign of King Mahachivit Srisavangvong, the carving school School in Luang Prabang was commenced. This School preferred to engrave angel images on top of the flora pattern that is the stalk of peony flower. The sample of images of this School can be seen at the door of the Sim of Wat Visoun, Luang Prabang.
ArchitectureBuddha Image at Tham Chang
The characteristics of Buddha images in Dvaravati art of Central Laos, similar to those in Northeast Thailand, are the indigenous facial expression, the small hairy curls suggesting Khmer influence. Vitarka gesture is very popular during this period, as so the loose cross-legged sitting with one sole shown.
SculpturePra Bang
This Buddha image is characterized by the small hairy curls, both-shoulder-covered robe, tow-handed Abhya gesture and the strip of cloth at the lower garment. These features suggest that this Buddha image is assignable to the Post-Bayon style of Khmer art.

This Buddha image bears the characteristic of King Xai Xettha styles. The Sukhothai and Lanna influence is noticeable from the oval face and the flame on the top of the chignon. The Buddha wears the one-shoulder-covered robe, sitting in Maravijaya gesture on the lotus ring. The influences from Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Lanna art are quite obvious as there were the close connection between Laos andThailand during the reign of Xai Xettha.
SculptureBronze Base of the Buddha Image
In 22-24 centuries BE., Buddha Images in Lanchang were usually built with high bases with elaborated lotus wire. The base is made of bronze. It is composed of lion base and the foot of the lion is an arc that is continuously connected. This characteristic is similar to the one of Mid-Ayutthaya art. Next to the base appears the overturned lotus and the wood with the pattern of Look gaew ok gai. Next is the upturned lotus connected with the overturned one to soften the upper layer of wood and to show the curve of the base. The curve is the important aesthetics of lotus wires in Lanchang art.

In 22-24 centuries BE, there are several remarkable feature of Buddha Image in Lanchang arts. For example, the traditional style face, small hair with hairline, large heads but narrow shoulders. The body is tall and thin. The robe is smooth with no stripes and there is the edge of the robe in the front according to Ayutthaya style. However, the edge of the robe is tilted which is the special characteristic of Lanchang.

Buddha Images in the beginning of Lanchang arts are very similar to the ones of Sukhothai arts. For example, oval face, big curl of hair, flame-like halo, low gazes, broad shoulders, the robe with the length until the navel.
